When Do You Need to Split a PDF?

Splitting a PDF is useful in many situations:

• A large report needs to be split into chapters for distribution
• You received a combined document and need just one section
• You want to separate a multi-page scanned document into individual files
• You need to share only certain pages, not the entire document

There are two common split approaches: splitting every page into its own file, or extracting a specific range of pages.

Split vs Extract: What's the Difference?

Split all pages — every page of the PDF becomes its own separate PDF file. A 10-page document becomes 10 individual PDFs.

Extract page range — you specify which pages you want (e.g. pages 3–7) and get back a single PDF containing just those pages. This is the most common use case.

How to Split a PDF on Breklo

Splitting a Large PDF into Equal Parts
